The Office of the Auditor & Treasurer

The auditor serves as the city’s chief financial officer. The city auditor shall keep the books of the city and exhibit accurate statements of all money received and expended. The city auditor shall maintain financial records, issue warrants (checks), and prepare the city’s financial reports.

The auditor of a city shall be elected for a term of four years, commencing on the first day of January next after his/her election. He/she shall be an elector of the city. (ORC 733.10)

Current term expires 12/31/2024

Duties

  • Pay all vendors and balances them with the annual budget
  • Handle payroll for city employees
  • Receipts in all city revenue from all sources (except the Tax Office and the Municipal Court)
  • Balances and deposits money into the city accounts at various banks
  • Reconcile all bank accounts at the end of each month
  • Responsible for all investments and borrowing for various activities and equipment
